The Compass

Trapped with nowhere to go,
Your tears won’t fall.
Can’t get past appetizers on restaurant tables,
Even life toys with you no more

Where are the feelings?
this world keeps asking you.
Friends try to console and cajole,
But the smile has forgotten its existence.

Are you human anymore?
Covered in the darkness of the past,
The night has become a comfort -
With a dark moon that seems eternal.

Keeping these blue blinds on,
No taking off your blanket.
You want to wave your ship goodbye -
As it slowly sinks with many holes.

But God is found only when truly needed -
And a lifeboat appears from nowhere.
Full of warmth, with the scent of a fiery rose,
You begin to order more of the main course.

Streetlights are brighter,
Passing cars play a symphony in French.
You find yourself whistling tunes -
Tasting not sugar but only the fresh nectar.

Learn to laugh and learn to cry,
This newfound sunlight tells you.
Because the tiara needs a partner crown,
A shiny full moon amongst the glittering stars.

This fire must not be extinguished -
Let it burn the coals within your ship’s furnace.
Ghosts seem to exit your divine temple,
And bells toll throughout each night.

The ship sails freely towards your north star,
Winds seem to guide you towards it.
Enemy ships are spotted easily now -
And toppled with one throw of your spear.

Being a king surely suits you -
Waging war is a birthright.
Your sword’s out of the belt,
And the arena feels like a playpen.

But every king must be tested -
So fate intervenes again.
Makes you want to take on the world -
And watch whether you hold on to the crown.

You win some and you lose some -
There are temptations along the way.
Dewey jasmines, whistling flames, and wider crowns,
None ignite a fire that purifies your temple.

But the devil keeps taking your soul
In exchange for the whole world.
You scramble to retrace your steps -
To rediscover the compass pointing toward your north star.

Lady fortune shines upon you,
The sunshine returns with a knowing smile.
Lights up the wrinkles on your face -
Reading the stories written in time.

Hurriedly you look at the reunited compass -
But now understand the lesson from the journey.
The compass was the north star all along,
And you were always the lion king of your pride.

The rest of the world is just theatre,
You were always the One loving his Youniverse.
The compass is the only true destination,
And everybody is a lifelong sailor.
